INTERVIEW: Ann the Psychotherapist

AP:   What made you decide to study Psychology?

Ann:   I always found people to be fascinating.  I guess you would call me a people person.  I also saw a lot of suffering around me.  I wanted to understand the workings of the mind in order to be helpful to others.

AP:   Did you decide to pursue a career in psychology?

Ann:   I liked the idea of being in the helping professions.  Once I started my studies, I realized the great responsibility a person carries to do no harm.  Therefore, I did not opt for the easy way out.  I decided to obtain a degree in the subject.

After my BA and Masters degree, I studied ten extra years with Dr. David Gorton at the Gestalt Therapy Center in Encino.  After receiving my license in 1990 as a Marriage, Family, and Child Counselor, I set up a private practice in Woodland Hills.

I was blessed to have wonderful clients.  They worked hard and did well.  I found my position as a helper very satisfying.  At the same time, I discovered my fibromyalgia was getting the best of me.  I had a difficult decision to make.  It was becoming evident that a practice and raising a child were taxing my energy.  Therefore, I decided to cut back on my practice to only see existing clients and their families.

It was not long after I slowed down that God revved up.  He asked me to write The Messenger and The Bridge.  I fulfilled my promise to Him and the rest is history.
